MEMBERSHIP RESOURCE PACKET

TPWA Approach to Increasing Membership

The Texas Chapter’s Five-Year Goals were adopted at the February 8, 2009 Board Meeting, along with objectives and strategies to steadily move us toward achieving those goals.  A net chapter growth goal of 78 members has been established for the year.  Membership goals are being established for each Branch.  To help the TPWA reach its membership goals, TPWA Branches are being asked to establish a membership committee of one or more members, with a designated chairperson.  Branches also are being asked to create a database of Public Works Directors in their geographical area who are not currently APWA members, and private corporations with no APWA members.  Branches will use their databases to identify the best recruitment targets, and initiate contact.  The Chapter Membership Committee will assist branches with recruitment efforts through mailings and personal contacts with potential members identified in the database. The information your Branch gathers locally becomes a key ingredient to the Chapter’s effective marketing campaign. To keep all of us up to date on our recruiting efforts, a reporting schedule has been established.

Recruiting New Members Benefits You!

New members to our organization bring diverse experiences and new ideas to share with us adding strength to our membership force.  Branches become more effective, and have more to offer as their memberships grow. This translates into more information and more opportunities for you to enhance your career as a public works professional.  It also means you will have additional advocates and expand your social network for increased investment in public works through APWA.

Continuing Education Units are a Strong Recruiting Tool

Public Works officials are always looking for opportunities to earn CEU’s for their professional development. The primary purpose of the CEU is to provide a permanent record of the educational accomplishments of an individual who has completed significant non-credit educational and career enhancement experiences. At APWA, we offer CEUs to individuals who participate in our nationally sponsored educational programs. APWA Chapters have the opportunity to receive approval to issue CEUs for Chapter sponsored events/activities. For more information on APWA CEU policies and requirements, please click on the CEU Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) in the left navigator bar at www.apwa.net
