City Engineer
The Position
The City Engineer oversees the City’s engineering activities, including the design and construction of all streets and drainage facilities, and is responsible for floodplain management. This individual coordinates the review of all planned engineering projects and plans, including schedules, feasibility studies, and cost estimates. The City Engineer reviews subdivision and construction plans in addition to developing engineering plans and project scope requirements. The individual selected must be comfortable in communicating development regulations for specific circumstances, and have the ability to be both firm and flexible. This position is also responsible for coordinating project management of the City’s capital and bond projects and provides oversight of inspections during construction.
The City Engineer supervises and mentors engineering staff, develops and manages a multi-year capital improvement plan and street bond program, coordinates high-profile development projects, and serves as a technical expert for infrastructure projects throughout the City. The City Engineer reports to the Public Works Director.
Experience and Education
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field with a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible engineering experience and at least three years in a management/supervisory role. A State of Texas registration as a Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain such registration within six months of hire is required.
Preferred qualifications include Certified Flood Manager (CFM) certification; experience working in local, state, or federal government; experience managing a bond program; a background in floodplain management, street maintenance, and stormwater management; and experience with design and asset program management.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $95,008 - $120,959 depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefits package.
