Field Technician


SALARY: $13.41 - $16.76 Hourly USD

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for a wide-variety of public works and transportation maintenance initiatives related to storm water management, street maintenance and repairs, traffic operations activities and streetlight operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Ability to operate a tandem dump truck, two-ton dump truck, and additional equipment in the following categories: 
  • Asphalt roller, crack seal applicator, pot hole patch machine, concrete grinder, concrete saw and related, pneumatic and hand tools in repairing or replacing concrete (sidewalks, curbs, drainage structures), repairing and maintaining asphalt and concrete streets, asphalt crack sealing and patching. Sign installation equipment, thermoplastic markings machine, mechanical post-hole diggers, mechanical trencher and necessary equipment and tools for repairing and maintaining all signals and markings facilities including sign installation/maintenance, pavement marking installation/maintenance, and signal construction/maintenance. 
  • Storm water equipment, chainsaws, weed eaters, assisting with operations of winch trucks, skid steers, Bobcats, Minzi Muck, Gradall, vac truck and camera truck. 
  • Streetlight trenchers, pole climbing equipment, splicers and assisting with bucket truck operations.
• Ability to understand and interpret TxDOT, TxMUTCD, and TEEX rules, regulations, plans, and guidelines; and to place and utilize all related safety devices per code and/or design. 
• Ability to serve as flag-person to divert traffic safely around construction sites.
• Ability to service, clean, and maintain equipment, perform walk-around inspections, make minor repairs and service fluids, fill out equipment log-book, and maintain tools and equipment per manufacturers specifications and guidelines.

  OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Ability to be trained and perform other duties as needed or assigned.
  

Qualifying Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and six (6) months experience in a similar environment.  Valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.  Must obtain class "A" commercial driver's license within six (6) months of employment. 

Offer of employment is contingent on successful completion of required pre-employment screens which include criminal background check, health-physical exam, drug and alcohol test, and motor vehicle evaluation.
