JOB SUMMARY: The City Engineer and Engineering plans, directs and administers all activities of the Engineering Department, which includes support to the Public Works Department, Development Services Department, Parks and Leisure Department along with other aspects of municipal capital and development operations. This is an exempt position that reports to the City Manager/Deputy City Manager. Work involves ensuring technical competence, intent and compliance with all current codes and criteria; serving as a Project Manager as needed; planning, designing, and directing construction and maintenance of structures and facilities, such as roads, bridges, channels, dams, pipelines, water and sewage systems, waste disposal units, public buildings, private development, and parks. This position requires thorough knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures of the Engineering Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the City Engineer. The City Engineer must be skilled in operating the required tools and equipment and also have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with employees, departments, consultants, developers, other governmental agency representatives, city officials and the general public. Work includes, but not limited to, the ability to conduct necessary engineering research and knowledge of the principles of organization, planning, development, and implementation of responsibilities as they relate to the activities of this position.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSE: Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and more than five (5) years of experience in municipal engineering and six (6) years of increasingly responsible general civil engineering work experience is required. ? Experience in Computer Aided Drafting and Design related to municipal infrastructure applications. ? Experience in managing and supervising multiple staff.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
? Must currently be registered in state of Texas as a Professional Engineer or have the ability to obtain this registration in Texas within six (6) months from the date of employment. ? A valid Texas Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
