The Plano Public Works Department, recently reorganized under a new director, is responsible for the community’s streets and drainage, water and wastewater, signals, signs and markings, and pumping facilities. The Assistant Director of Public Works – Streets and Traffic reports to the Director of Public Works and leads a team of 117 employees in planning, coordinating, and managing the operations, maintenance, regulatory compliance, and activities of the City’s Streets and Traffic Division.

The Assistant Director of Public Works-Streets and Traffic will be an important part of the City’s management team and will need to be a strong performer with proven leadership, organizational, and motivational skills.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field and five years of progressively responsible experience involving public administration, including infrastructure design, construction, maintenance, or operation of a variety of public works activities with an emphasis on street, traffic, and pavement-related construction. Candidates should also have five years of supervisory experience on their resumes. Local government experience is preferred, though an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position will be considered.

Candidates should also be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas or have the ability to obtain their license within six months of their hire date.
