The Plano Public Works Department, recently reorganized under a new director, is responsible for the community’s streets and drainage, water and wastewater, signals, signs and markings, and pumping facilities. The Assistant Director of Public Works – Community Services reports to the Director of Public Works and leads a team of 146 employees in planning, coordinating, and managing the operations, maintenance, regulatory compliance, and activities of the City’s Community Services Division, which consists of the Fleet, Environmental Waste, and Asset Management teams.

The Assistant Director of Public Works-Community Services will be an important part of the City’s management team and will need to be a strong performer with proven leadership, organizational, and motivational skills.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, business, or a related field with a master’s degree in public or business administration preferred. Candidates should also have five years of progressively responsible experience involving public administration, including infrastructure design, construction, maintenance, or operation of a variety of public works activities with an emphasis on asset management, and five years of supervisory experience. Local government experience is strongly preferred, though an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position will be considered.
