Public Works Director – City of Port Neches, Texas
A riverfront community situated within the Golden Triangle metropolitan area of Texas’ southeastern coastline, Port Neches maintains a small-town atmosphere bustling with businesses and bursting with community pride. Located between Beaumont and Port Arthur, 90 miles east of Houston, this family-friendly city of 9.13 square miles and approximately 14,000 residents sits within Jefferson County on the western banks of the Neches River, just north of Sabine Lake and the Gulf of Mexico.
Port Neches is seeking a skilled, innovative, and principled Public Works professional who is eager to hit the ground running as a working manager and a key member of City staff. The ideal candidate has experience in streets, parks, solid waste, municipal facilities, vehicle maintenance, and water and wastewater systems, including managing treatment plants for both. The Port Neches Public Works Department is responsible for streets and right-of-ways, the drainage system, water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, solid waste collection and disposal, parks maintenance, fleet/equipment maintenance, and permitting/inspections and zoning.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a related field. The City seeks candidates with at least nine years of increasingly responsible experience, including at least five years as a Public Works Director or as an Assistant Public Works Director for a larger community. The City strongly prefers that candidates are licensed as Professional Engineers (PE) and licensing within the State of Texas is a plus. Significant and exceptional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the PE license.
Expected start date for the selected candidate is March 28, 2022.
The current salary range for this position is $119,692 to $151,449 with a starting salary range of $119,692 to $129,459, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
